Notes from a really tiny island

Niches and Notches, Nooks and Crannies

Look at this pretty nook! This is Container Store’s Elfa system, which is on sale right now.

They do deliver to Singapore but shipping will cost more than the system itself. Ha ha. But what a cozy niche.

Hold on…. can we talk about the iPhone X for a bit (rant incoming)?

That Face ID and TrueDepth Dot Projector thingamajig?

Machine learning AI that learns how your face changes with age?
Very impressive (if a bit scary).

Fun, I guess, for awhile (it’s 2017, so difficult to be amazed by these things anymore).

But what in the name of Steve Jobs is this?

iPhone X

“Our vision has always been to create an iPhone that is entirely screen. One so immersive the device itself disappears into the experience.”

Tell me how immersive your videos and games would look like with that stupid black notch at the side. Sheesh. *rantoff*

Okay, back to The Home. The Elfa system has more doodads than the IKEA Algot system, and includes things like drawers, angled shelves and utility boards (a kind of peg board).

Elfa freestanding version

Been fiddling with IKEA’s awesome ALGOT planner. Here’s one I did for the home office (for the two of us). Looks like there are too many shelves?

Or maybe not? Here’s a real-er example, which is inciting my need to spray paint everything white.

IKEA Algot Home Office

We’ll need narrow shelves underneath the main desk for placing cords and stuff.

It is 2017 and we still have so many ugly wires to deal with. Ugh.

Can’t wait for a wire-free future.

But for now,¬†we’ll just have to make do with “the future of the smartphone”
